Savory Cake

Image
Look at my 'Turkey Sausage & Onion cake'. Normally when you hear of cake you think a sweet cake with yummy flavors such as orange, pineapple, chocolate, vanilla, caramel and so much more. But this time I changed it up and tried doing something different. I took the recipe to a regular sweet cake and tweaked it to make it a savory cake. My Turkey Sausage and Onion cake came out just fine and tastes great with whatever you choose to serve it with. Cream cheese, butter, just by it self with a sauce or dressing. It can be used as a side dish. It looks a bit similar to a bread but is much softer and tastes a bit different. In my opinion it is also a little easier to make than bread. (But if you are looking for a bread recipe check out my blog post for Homemade Bread  But this is not bread. It's cake. You can also be just as creative with it as you would any regular cake. Use different flavors such as shredded chicken, beef, shrimp. Be versatile with your herbs and spic

Crumbed Cookie Cream Mousse (Serradura)

Image
Easy to make in 10 minutes or less. with 3 simple ingredients. I made this just the other day. Got the recipe from a friend who made it a few weeks ago. I tried it for the first time and absolutely loved it. It tastes creamy yet, not too sweet and the crumbed cookies layered in between adds a unique flavor. Really simple to make and literally melts in your mouth. 2 cups heavy cream 1 can condensed milk 1 pack maria cookies or graham crackers (I used graham crackers) Put your heavy cream into a big bowl and beat it with an electronic mixer for a few minutes until it becomes noticeably thicker. Add in your condensed milk and continue beating. Set it aside. Separately in a blender put in your cookies either maria cookies or graham crackers and blend them till it becomes very crumbled. Get a pyrex and layer everything up. Your crumbed cookies, your mousse, cookies again, mousse again and then finish it off with the top layer being cookies. Garnish as you'd like. Prin

Sirloin Steak

Image
Some people like their steak, Rare (slightly bloody) or Medium well ( not really bloody, but still red in the center) and others Well done (no red at all, fully cooked). I am one who likes my steak really well done. I cooked a really good piece of sirloin steak. I rubbed it well with olive oil and just seasoned it with a little salt and pepper. I rubbed in the seasoning. Massaging it into the meat for tenderness and evenly distributed seasonings. Then I simple fried it in a sauce pan with just a little bit of oil for a few minutes on medium heat until the beef was cooked to my likings. I fried an egg and put it on top of the beef. Eating them both together was really tasty. Along side my beef I made this really delicious type of a potato family called Yuca or Cassava. I boiled it just as I would if I were boiling potatoes until it was soft. ( about 10 minutes.) then in a small pot I  filled it half way with canola oil and allowed it to get hot first and I threw in my yuca peices

Sweetened Condensed Milk

Image
Here is a recipe that my sister shared with me. How amazing. This is something that I commonly buy and make recipes with. But I never thought to make it myself. Duh, think outside of the box Elise... Never buy Sweetened Condensed Milk again.... Nunca compre Leite Moca de novo... Ingredients to make 1 can of Sweetened Condensed Milk 3/4 cup sugar 4 tbsp butter 1/3 cup boiling water 1/2 tsp vanilla extract 1 cup powdered milk (carnation is the recommended brand) With a hand mixer, mix together in a bowl, the water, butter, sugar, and vanilla extract. Then add the powdered milk little at a time and mix. Put the mix through a strainer and keep pressing the milk through to break down all the powdered milk lumps that may have formed. Mix again for about 2 minutes until the mix gets a bit thicker in consistency just as in the video above. Enjoy your very own home made Sweetened Condensed Milk By the way my twin sister also has a blog. It is about dating the right way.

Cereal

Image
Next time you eat, cereal. Make it unique. For instance look at this picture. I ate a plain cereal (Honey Nut Cheerios) But I decided to add fresh cut strawberries and fresh cut dates inside. This made for a refreshing, delicious, light dinner or can serve as an afternoon snack or an especially heart healthy breakfast. Add your milk and your done. Change it up, add new things to your cereal and be creative even with this. There is no need to cook. Just chop it up and add it in. For instance I've eaten ceareal before and added either chocolate powder or strawberry powder to my milk to make it taste differently. As you see above, I've added fresh fruits such as: Strawberries, Blueberries, Bananas, Dates, Raisins. I've added nuts such as walnuts and pecans or even candies such as m&m's Next time you eat your cereal try adding a little something to it, to change up and enhance the flavor. Go Ahead, give it a try... From my Kitchen to Yours God Bless
