Presentation

Have you ever heard the saying 'You eat with your eyes before you eat with your mouth'. Can you believe I spent $8 on this tiny piece of 'Tres Leches Cake' dessert. It was really delicious and not too sweet. (Notice how they used different colors to highlight the all white cake, they used fresh fruit, mint leaves and a strawberry sauce with white chocolate shavings drizzled on top) But what made me dish out the money to buy this slice of cake in the restaurant was how well it was presented. There is so much detail that went into the decorating or garnishing of the cake. And this is in a 'To Go' 'Take - Out' container. Imagine how much nicer it would be if I were to 'Eat in'. Before actually tasting any food you first view it, and judge whether you want to try it or not based on it's looks alone. How many times did this happen to you? I know it's happened to me. Where I know I don't like a certain food or I am full; but when I

Every Woman's Dream

Image
I've got every woman's dream. A few days ago was my 8th anniversary. I have been married to a great husband, couldn't have asked for someone better. God truly knew what He was doing when He matched us up. I mean, all I needed to do was trust that He would take care of my love life. That's all. That simple. By trusting that He would take care of my love life. I demonstrated that trust by actually trusting. I didn't need to date this guy or that guy or sleep around to 'test the waters' as they say. I didn't need to have sleepless nights worrying about where my guy is, didn't care if I was seen as the girl with not boyfriend all throughout high school. I just trusted God. You don't need to be some religious person to do that. It's just a decision you make and what you force your body to do or not do. For instance if I borrow you $100 because I trust you will give it back to me next week. I don't need to keep asking you for it, I don

Something every cook needs to know

Image
Hello dear blog viewers, look what happened when someone tried to make  my 'Caramel Cake' recipe. Today I want to share with you an interesting blog that I read from my sisters blog. It is so true, and something that every cook needs to know. You cannot be a cook without knowing this key fact. Read below.  By the way my sister and I are identical twins who did everything together.   visit her blog also www.howtodategodsway.blogspot.com Take a look: I know, I know. You must be thinking; Why in the world does Elsie have a picture of the trash on her blog? Well, that's because I don't run scared! Most of the time when I try a new recipe, even though I make sure to pay close attention to what the recipe is saying and I make that first time recipe so slow and carefully to make sure I don't mess up. And guess what? Most of the time, almost always, I mess up that first time. Is it frustrating?  Yeah. But I don't run scared, I'm not af

Fruit Designs

Image
As long as you have fruit in the house. You can never complain of not having something to garnish with. Look at how beautiful and creative these fruit cuts look. There are all types of designs that can be made out of fruit. They are not difficult to make either. They just take practice. Don't look at it and think 'Oh, I cant make that it's too hard.' It's not. Just pay attention to the details and carve away. If you mess up just eat the fruit and try again  : - ) There are so many ways you can use the fruit to decorate your dish, meal, cold cuts, fruit salads etc. Try it. This is not mine, but I tried this one before, it wasn't as hard as it looked. It took me about 20 minutes to do it. Try it.                      God Bless From my kitchen to yours Elise Jackson

Caramel Cake

Image
Before I start. Theres a story to this cake: A few months ago I went to visit my grandmother in Massachusetts, as we were there she was ranting about this really delicious cake that she bought. Because of how much she spoke about it and how good she made it sound, Damien and I took a piece. AND OH MY GOODNESS... That cake was magnificent. So what happened was we ended up ordering and taking home with us an entire cake, Just for the two of us. In less than 24 hours the whole cake was gone. We loved it that much. Fine, I realized that we did a bad job in consuming an entire cake in 24 hours so I realized that we needed a break from the cake, we were too into the delicious cake  : - ) so I never bought up the cake subject again, until now....... A few months later and I can't forget the cake, I want another caramel cake. so I call grandma and mom to ask for the address, phone number and bakery name for where I can order this cake and have them deliver it to me. So excited I cal

Are u Creative enough?

Image
Are you lacking a little creativity when it comes to your cooking? Take a look at these pictures. For instance I made a chicken pie (Empadao) to find out exactly how to make it view my blog post from  July 17, 2012 titled 'Brazilian Chicken Pie (Empadao). With this particular pie that I made; I didn't just serve it, I also decorated it by making a flower on top. Then I took green food coloring and colored the leaves and the grass. It's a shame I only had green food coloring. Imagine how beautiful it would have looked with for instance red, or purple flower petals. How about this cake that my husband bought in the store just because of how unique it was. Look how they made a burger out of cake. It was like a mini personal sized cake burger. But if you pay close attention to it. You see how simple it actually is to make. They just made two cakes, One chocolate cake and one vanilla cake. (To find out how to make a basic cake view my blog post from May 29th, 2013 titled

French Toast

Image
What better for breakfast than an awesomely made French Toast. Simple to make from the ingredients you already have at home and really unique. All you need is: 3 Slices of Bread 3 Eggs 1/2 tsp Sugar pinch of Cinnamon Topping:  Jam, Syrup, Fresh cut fruits, Powdered Sugar, Whipped Cream or whatever you may like Take your eggs and beat them together with a fork, add your sugar and cinnamon and beat a little more until all incorporated. Then you use your bread as a dipper. Dip both sides of the bread into the egg mixture. Dip both sides both front and back. As this is being done, take a frying pan or skillet and lightly butter it and put the heat on medium low. Simply fry both sides of your egg washed bread and set aside. Once youve fried them all your all set. Add your topping and serve fresh and hot. I had them with bacon, sausage and eggs in this picture but have had it in the past with as many different things as I could. Even Ice Cream. I even had it made on crois
